ERNEST F. P. SMITH, 78, OF WEST CHESTER Ernest F. P. Smith, 78, of West Chester, passed away on October 31, 2011. Born in London, England in 1933, Ernest was the son of Adelaide (DeFries) and Percival Smith, both deceased. Ernest studied Engineering at South East London Technical College, then did a five year apprenticeship with The Royal Mint of England, where he worked for 16 years. He was then recruited by the Franklin Mint and relocated from England to work there as Chief Engraver. He remained with them for 16 years before pursuing other opportunities with Dynamic Engraving Company & Berwyn Glass. Ernest served two years in the Royal Armed Forces. He was a true animal and nature lover and enjoyed golf, gardening and wood working. Ernest is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Kate (Bonner) Smith; his children, Nina Baker (Jonathan), Adrian Smith (Laurie) and Ryan Makin, and his grandchildren, Lilly Rose Smith, Ashley Panayiotou, Adrienne Hart and Bobby Hart. He is also survived by his sister, Grace Sairman. He was predeceased by his sister, Joan Smith. Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 10-11 a.m., Monday, November 7, 2011, followed by his funeral service at 11 a.m. at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382, 610-431-9000. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission, 302 N. 13th Street, P.O. Box 297, Philadelphia, PA 19105-0297 or to Common Ground Youth, P. O. Box 95, Parkerford, PA 19457.
