Successful local business owner Francesco "Frank" A. Mascaro, age 66, of Trooper, PA died on Friday, August 2, 2013 at Phoenixville Hospital, surrounded by loving family members, after a battle with cancer.
Frank, one of the owners of local solid waste company, J.P. Mascaro & Sons, was born on March 5, 1947 in Abington, PA and was raised in the Mascaro family home in Trooper, PA, as the third of six Mascaro siblings. Frank attended Bishop Kenrick and Methacton High Schools, where he excelled in academics and athletics, graduating from Methacton High School in 1965.
After high school, Frank attended Philadelphia Textile College for a time before deciding that his entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen were better served by his participation in the family trash business that had recently been founded by his father Joseph P. Mascaro, Sr. Frank was instrumental in the early development and growth of the J.P. Mascaro & Sons company which he owned together with his four brothers and which today is a recognized leader in the solid waste industry. Frank dedicated his whole life to his family and the family business.
Frank was predeceased by his parents Joseph P. Mascaro, Sr. and Ida E. (Angelillis) Mascaro, by his paternal grandparents, Francesco A. Mascaro, Sr. and Felicia Pagnotta Mascaro, and by his maternal grandparents, Michael Angelillis, Sr. and Mary DeLora Angelillis.
Frank is survived by his sister, Rose Marie Mascaro Venditti of Barto, PA, by his brother, Pasquale N. Mascaro and his wife, Susan Lee Mascaro of Trooper, PA; and by his brothers Michael Mascaro of Trooper, PA, Joseph P. Mascaro, Jr. of Wellington, FL, and Louis J. Mascaro of Telford, PA. Also surviving Frank are his 20 nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. They are: Mari Mascaro MacDougal, Pasquale N. Mascaro, Jr., Lindsay Mascaro Ptaszenski, Joseph Paul Mascaro, James Lee Mascaro, Michael A. Mascaro, Ben C. Mascaro, Regina Mascaro, Joseph P. Mascaro III, Christina Mascaro Macelak, Colleen Mascaro Bellenghi, Katherine Mascaro, Luca Mascaro, Lisa Mascaro, Julie Mascaro Lick, Matthew Mascaro, Christopher Mascaro, Rose Marie Venditti Lebo, Robert Venditti, and Dustin Venditti. Frank also has 18 surviving great nieces and nephews.
Besides being an excellent athlete in his younger days, Frank was also an avid fan of all sports, a supporter of Philadelphia area teams, and a true sports historian. His sports knowledge was second to none. In his leisure time, Frank enjoyed playing his harmonica and visiting and placing "a wager or two" at area casinos and horse tracks, where his record of success was shall we say "better than average".
Affectionately referred to by his brothers as the "Chief", Frank was a lifelong member and supporter of the Visitation BVM Catholic Church in Trooper, PA. Frank was the type of person that other people liked to be around. He had an infectious smile and a special way of making others feel welcome and content. And anyone who knew Frank Mascaro knew him to be the ultimate "giver" whose generosity had no limits. He frequently and generously gave to his family and friends, to the church, to educational institutions, to the needy, and to charitable causes and organizations. And that generosity will continue on in the future in the form of the Frank A. Mascaro Charitable Trust, which he formed before his death.
Frank was a special son, brother, uncle and friend; he was a good man and will be dearly missed by all.
The Mascaro Family will receive relatives and friends at a viewing on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Boyd-Horrox Celebration of Life Home, 200 West Germantown Pike, Norristown, PA, and also on Thursday August 8, 2013 from 8:00 AM to 9:50 AM at the Visitation BVM Catholic Church, 196 North Trooper Road, Trooper, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at the Church at 10:00 AM.
Interment will be in the Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Norristown, PA.
