Obituary Condolences

GLADYS J. WARTENBURG, 88, FORMERLY OF PHOENIXVILLE Gladys J. (Williams) Wartenburg, formerly of Phoenixville, and most recently a resident of the Maris Grove retirement community in Glen Mills, died Tuesday, November 1, 2011. She was 88. Born December 9, 1922, in Maple Shade, NJ; she was the daughter of Gertrude (Parent) and Albert Williams. She was predeceased by her brother, Albert Williams Jr., her husband, Otto Carl Wartenburg Jr., and a son, Otto Carl Wartenburg III. Gladys loved her church and was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Phoenixville from 1949 until moving to Maris Grove in 2009. Gladys loved her church, family, and home in Phoenixville. She moved there with her husband, Carl, and infant son in 1949 from Philadelphia, so that they could raise their family in the town where her brother-in-law was the minister at First Presbyterian. Gladys was a Sunday school teacher and deacon. Her greatest joys were her faith and family. Gladys and Carl celebrated 54 years of marriage, until his death in 1997. Gladys encouraged her children with music, education, and church and community involvement. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting; reading and walking; the companionship of her friends and neighbors; and long drives through Lancaster County. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Bevilacqua, of Holiday, FL; a son Kurt, and his wife Connie, of Oxford, PA; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Heartland Hospice of Chadds Ford, PA, or the First Presbyterian Church of Phoenixville, PA. The Wartenburg family extends their sincere appreciation to the loving caregivers of Renaissance Gardens of Maris Grove, Heartland Hospice and the many friends and neighbors who cared for Gladys.
