H. Douglas Stearly. 92, husband of the late Laura E. (Beideman) Stearly, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at Manatawny Manor in East Coventry Twp. He was a former resident of Perkiomen Twp., and Trappe.|
Mr. Stearly was born Oct. 30, 1920, in Trappe, and was a son of the late S. Walter and Katharine (Longstreth) Stearly. He was a graduate of Collegeville High School.
Before he retired, he owned and operated Stearly's Motor Freight in Trappe and Limerick Twp.
Mr. Stearly was a member of Augustus Lutheran Church, the PA Motor Truck Assn., the Specialized Carriers & Rigging Assn., Warren Lodge #310, Free & Accepted Masons, Collegeville, the Reading Consistory, and The Mingo Express Horse Co.
Mr. Stearly was a life-long auto racing enthusiast. He was a life member of the United States Auto Club and a member of the Murat Shriners 500 Club, Indianapolis.
Mr. Stearly is survived by his son, Walter R., husband of Sherri L. (Shellenberger) Stearly, of Trappe, and his grandson, Douglas M. Stearly.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ernest and Donald Stearly.
The funeral service, including a Masonic service, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, at Augustus Lutheran Church, Main St. and 7th Ave., Trappe, with the Rev. G. Warren Weleck, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., Saturday, at church.
