JAMES A. SHIRK, 78, OF ABBOTTSTOWN James A. Shirk, 78, of Abbottstown, died Friday, February 15, 2013 at the Gettysburg Lutheran Home. He was the husband of the late Annamary (McDonald) Shirk, who died December 30, 2003. James was born March 16, 1934 in Reading, the son of the late Thomas C. and Edith H. (Strunk) Shirk. James was a member of Spring Valley Church of God, served in the U.S. Air Force during the
, was a member of the American Legion, Charles Steele Post #622 in Laureldale, and was a Past President of the Berks County Sunday School Association. James is survived by three daughters, Sharon R. Aswad and her husband, George of Abbottstown; Joy E. Payne and her husband, Donald of Mt. Joy, and Faith E. Stover and her husband, Wayne of Cleveland, TN; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Ronald Shirk of Laureldale and John Shirk of Houston, TX, and a sister, Mary E. Reader and her husband, Robert of Seaside, NJ. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Feiser Funeral Home, Inc., 302 Lincolnway West, New Oxford, with Rev. John Goff officiating. Burial will be in Spies Zion Cemetery in Reading at 2:30 p.m. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
