JOHN ANDREW WHALEN II Obituary
JOHN ANDREW WHALEN II, 67, OF MESA, AZ John Andrew Whalen II, 67, of Mesa, AZ, passed away April 28, 2014 in Restora Hospital of Mesa, AZ. He was the husband of Vera (Reinert) Whalen, whom he married 31 years ago. Born August 6, 1946 in Reading, he was a son of Sarah K. (Myers) Whalen, of Arizona, and the late John R Whalen. He was a graduate of Daniel Boone High School. John was born to sell. He started with Sears, Roebuck & Co. in Shillington. He was the owner of Whalen's Home Center of Birdsboro, PA. And for the last 20 years, he built and ran his own importing company - John Whalen Sales-Mission Imports. John loved reading, travel, gardening, debating Politics, and Big Band Music. He also knew a 'million' jokes. He proudly served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was very active in the Birdsboro Community. He was a member of the town council and an active member of the Birdsboro Jaycees. John and his best friend Ron Ewing started the 'Travelling Santa Program". John volunteered with Boy Scouts of American in Birdsboro and ROTC high school students in Arizona. He was an active member of the Republican Party. If a friend or an acquaintance needed help, John was always first to volunteer his services. In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, John Andrew III of Mesa, AZ and stepdaughter, Kendra (Faust) Russell of York, SC. Also surviving is one brother, Timothy Whalen, Pottstown; one grandson; many nieces and nephews, and friends - too many to count. Memorial Service: TBD In lieu of flowers, help or cheer up someone in need and tell them: 'John Whalen sent you'.
