John J. "Jack" Hanley Obituary
JOHN "JACK" J. HANLEY, 87, WWII VETERAN John "Jack" J. Hanley, 87, of Pottstown, husband of the late Helen E. (Kijek) Hanley, passed away on Sunday at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. Born in Shamokin, he was the son of the late Francis X. and Helen C. (Donlan) Hanley. John was a member of St. Aloysius R.C. Church, where he was an usher and active there for many years, the St. Aloysius Senior Group and the Knights of Columbus, Father Bally Council #1192. He worked for Firestone Tire & Rubber, Occidental Chemical and was a former custodian for St. Pius X High School. John was a World War II US Navy Veteran receiving the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon and the Victory Medal. He had a chance to revisit Pearl Harbor, a dream of his since he last served. He enjoyed traveling and was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan. Surviving are sons, James F. Hanley, husband of Bridget M., of Elverson; Dennis J. Hanley, husband of Yundi, of Salem, WV, and Kevin T. Hanley of New Egypt, NJ; daughter, Mary Anne Hanley of Lower Pottsgrove Twp.; brother, Francis "Rip" Hanley of Lewisburg; grandsons, Jamie, Karl and Timothy Hanley; great-grandchildren, Summer Morgan and Karl Timothy Hanley, and a step-great-granddaughter,Brittany Wagner. Along with his wife and parents, he is predeceased by his sister,Elizabeth "Bibi" Marcinek. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, 11a.m. at St. Aloysius RC Church, Hanover and Beech streets, Pottstown with Fr. Joseph Maloney officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in St. Aloysius New Cemetery, Lower Pottsgrove Twp. Memorial contributions may be made in John's name to the St. Aloysius Gathering Center, 223 Beech Street, Pottstown, PA 19464. Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 711 N.
