Obituary Condolences

LEON ROBERT NICE, 86, OF SOUDERTON Leon Robert Nice, 86, of Souderton, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife and children on Sunday, July 15, 2012. He was the beloved husband of 63 years to Virginia "Jean" (Cias) Nice. Born in Souderton, he was a son of the late Melvin F. and Lillian M. (Bissey) Nice. After graduating from Souderton High School in 1943, he was drafted into the United States Navy and served onboard the USS Alexander J. Luke. He served his country for the remainder of WWII as a Pharmacist Mate. Upon his discharge, he worked for Melvin F. Nice and Sons Inc. as a builder and carpenter. He was then a self-employed contractor until his retirement in 1990. He was a lifetime member of Zwingli Reformed Church (UCC), where he served as an usher and head coach of the Women's Softball Team. He was also a member of the American Legion Warren Royer Post 234 of Souderton and a previous President of the 5th Quarter Club. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, golf and playing cards. He enjoyed getting away as often as possible to his cabin in Little Marsh, Pa. However, his greatest joy of all was spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Nancy Roop of Red Hill, Dianne Weaver of Boyertown, Leann Berger and her husband Terry of Zionsville, Pastor Scott Nice and his wife Catharina of Telford; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dennis S. Nice, Melvin Nice Jr. and his wife Loretta, and two sisters, Pauline Curtis and Lillian Nase. He was preceded in death by one brother, William L. Nice. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 11 a.m. in Zwingli United Church of Christ, 350 Wile Ave., Souderton. Interment will follow in Zion Memorial Gardens, Telford. Family will receive friends from 9:30-11 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Warren Royer American Legion Post 234, 353 N. Main St. Souderton, Pa. 18964 or the , Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market St. Suite 102, Philadelphia Pa. 19106.
