MARY ELLEN MERTZ OF BUCKTOWN CROSSING Mary Ellen (York) Mertz, of Bucktown Crossing, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, May 14, 2013. Born on April 28, 1930, in Kimberton, she was a daughter of Glenn and Edith York, formerly of Bucks County. Mary Ellen attended Spring City High School and was highly regarded for her scholarship and dependability. For many years she worked in the accounting and sales department of Prizer's Appliance Store in Pughtown and was known for her diligence, attention to detail and congeniality. For over 60 years she was a faithful member of Brownback's United Church of Christ and served in many capacities. Most recently, her volunteer ministries included working in the office, planning and coordinating meals for various functions, and participating on the prayer chain. Never tired of doing good works, she regularly ran errands, provided transportion and meals, and visited those who were in need. Mary Ellen found great joy and pleasure in her large and devoted family. She is survived by her son, Donald Mertz, and her daughters, Carol (David) Eckman, Barbara (Edwin) Gott, and Jane (Brian) Piersol. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mary Ellen also leaves behind two sisters and five brothers, Margaret Hibbs of Fredericktown, Linda Barndt of Warrington, Arthur York of Souderton, Edward York of Sun Prairie, WI, Paul York of Mount Horeb, WI, William York of Fountainville and Ronald York of Warminster. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Glen York, Robert York and Charles York, and one sister, Dorothy York Smiley. Relatives and friends will be received at Brownback's United Church of Christ, 640 Ridge Road, Spring City, PA, on Saturday, May 18, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The Rev.
