Obituary Condolences

MARY JANE FUNK, 82, FORMERLY OF BOYERTOWN Mary Jane Cole Funk, 82, formerly of Boyertown and Reading, died on November 26, 2011 at Keystone Villa in Douglassville, where she had been a recent resident. Born March 1, 1929, she was the daughter of the Reverend Alfred Storer Cole and Barbara Sawyer Cole. She spent her childhood in Medford, MA attending the local schools. Musically gifted, Jane graduated from the prestigious Longy School of Music in Cambridge as an accomplished pianist. On September 9, 1950 she married John Henry Funk and for the next 32 years lived on the campus of the Belmont Hill School, Belmont, MA. John acted as an administrator and member of the faculty, while Jane taught piano in their attic, conveying her love of music to her many students. They moved to Boyertown upon his retirement, thence to Reading, where she became a staunch supporter of Reading's Civic Opera and the Symphony Orchestra. Jane cherished visits with her many nieces and nephews in years past. She was an avid reader, enjoyed nature's tranquility and was fond of travel. Though she and John spent time in Canada, Europe and Latin America, Jane retained a strong attachment to her beloved New England coastline and the hills of Berks County. Her quiet wit will be missed by all. Jane is survived by her brother, Bruce Cole and his wife, Barbara of Wilmington, VT, and their five children, Bridget Cole of Elizabeth, CO; Dianna Jane Driller and her husband, Ron of Lake Tahoe, CA; Scott Cole and his wife, Jody of Richmond, VT; Andrew Cole and his wife, Jennifer Langdon, and Jennifer Nilsen and her husband, Karl, both of Wilmington, VT; six grandnieces and four grandnephews, and her niece, Lizanne Funk Siccardi of Arlington, VA. The family wishes to express its deepest thanks to those individuals who provided her with such constant, devoted care, especially Andrea Schultz of Reading. Secondly, it would like to recognize the outstanding services provided by Keystone Villa in Douglassville, Compassionate Care Hospice of Wyomissing and Chestnut Knoll At-Home staffers. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on the morning of Wednesday, December 7, at the Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, 111 North Reading Avenue, in Boyertown. The Reverend John G. Pearson will officiate. Internment at Fairview Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boyertown Fire Department, P. O.
