RICHARD C. FREY, 85, OF SPRING CITY Richard C. Frey, 85, of Spring City, formerly of Gilbertsville, widower of Fay E. (Rhoads) Frey, passed away peacefully with his children by his side on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Southeastern Veteran's Center. Born in Boyertown, he was a son of the late Henry L. Frey and the late Helen (Swavely) Frey. He worked for Todd Motors in Telford, until he retired, then he worked at Cumberland Farms in Boyertown until age 83. He served in the Army during WWII. He was a past commander of the American Legion, Charles B. Yerger Post #471. Richard was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Boyertown, where he served on church council and sang in the choir. He was a member of the Golden Agers and Spring Street Songsters. He was a lifelong supporter of the Boyertown Alumni Marching Unit and in 1958 instructed the Boyertown High School color guard to a winning National Championship in the AAA Parade in Washington DC. He was also a committee member for the original Cavalcade of Bands. In addition to his love of music, he was also an avid Phillies and Eagles fan. He was a true family man and dearly loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are one son, Richard G. Frey, husband of Shirley of Boyertown; two daughters, Donna K. Hilbert, wife of Gary of Schnecksville, and Andrea L. Coccie, wife of Jeffery of Pottstown; one brother, Dennis Frey; three sisters, Madalyn Sands, Barbara Spohn and Linda Lokey; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three sisters, Jean, Rita and Patricia, and three brothers, Henry, Allen and Paul. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 45 North Reading Avenue, Boyertown. Relatives and friends will be received from 10-11 a.m. Monday in the chapel. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Boyertown Alumni Marching Unit, PO Box 93, Boyertown, PA 19512.
