Morris C. Swartwood Jr. Obituary
MORRIS C. SWARTWOOD JR., 74, OF NEW HANOVER Morris C. Swartwood Jr. beloved husband of Betty (Moore) Swartwood passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, Jan 30. Born in Kingston, PA, Morris was the son of the late Morris C. Swartwood Sr. and Alice (Johns) Swartwood of Pottstown. Morris was a 1957 graduate of Pottstown High School and attended Ursinus College. He served proudly in the U.S. Army in the early 1960s. Morris was employed by Bell Telephone as a Construction Supervisor in both Pottstown and Reading until his retirement in 1994. He enjoyed meeting his fellow retirees for lunches in the years that followed. In addition to his wife he is survived by his son; Morris C. Swartwood III, husband of Kathleen (Huff) Swartwood, daughter; Lisa Marie (Swartwood) Rocus and her husband Christopher. Morris leaves behind adoring grandchildren Morris C. Swartwood IV, Brandon C. Rocus, Emily Anne Swartwood and great-grandson, Morris C Swartwood V. He is also survived by two sisters Margaret J. Swartwood of Pottstown, and Carole Loges of Charlotte, NC, as well as many extended family members. Since his retirement Morris spent many happy days tending his yard and garden. His kind, gentle nature and ever present sense of humor will be remembered and treasured by his friends and neighbors. Mr. Swartwood was a family man, content and happy to be the caregiver, taxi service and 'go to' guy for the grandchildren from infancy to college. He said with a smile, "It's what I do". He was deeply loved and is sadly missed. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in memory of Morris C. Swartwood Jr. to the Fox Chase Cancer Center, ATTN Development, 333 Cottman Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19111. On-line condolences may be made at www.houckgofusfuneralhomeinc.com.
