Charles A. Mentzer Obituary
CHARLES A. MENTZER, 94, OF ROYERSFORD Charles A. Mentzer, 94, husband of Georgianna P. (Weber) Mentzer, of Royersford, formerly Downingtown, passed away Tuesday morning, May 13, 2014 at home. Born in Carlisle, PA, he was a son of the late Charles E. and Jessie (Angney) Mentzer. Mr. Mentzer was a 1937 graduate of Boiling Springs High School. He was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church in Downingtown, where he acted in the play The Passion for nearly 40 years. Mr. Mentzer worked as the Farm Manager at the Montgomery County Geriatric Center for 21 1/2 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the National Chapter of the AARP as well as the CAT Bowling League in East Norriton. He loved watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports. He was a diehard Philadelphia sports fan, and loved watching and listening to his teams on the TV and radio. Mr. Mentzer coached and played for the Church softball league. He enjoyed hunting and playing card games. In addition to his wife of 70 years, Mr. Mentzer is survived by one son, Douglas C., husband of Linda J. Mentzer of Limerick; two sisters, Carolyn, wife of the late Joseph McCullough of Hanover, PA, and Joanne, wife of Donald Krall of Dillsburg, PA; daughter-in-law Joanne Mentzer; three grandchildren, John, husband of Christine Mentzer, Daniel Mentzer, and Shawn, husband of Jill Mentzer; and five great-grandchildren, David, Michael, William, Taylor, and Mackenzie. He was preceded in death by one son, Ronald A. Mentzer; one sister, Arlene Miller; and one grandson, Brian Mentzer. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at the Hopewell United Methodist Church, 852 Hopewell Road, Downingtown, PA 19335 on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 11 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Steven C. Morton. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. Friends will be received at the Church from 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Hopewell United Methodist Church at the address above.
