Margaret M. Fern Heil Obituary
MARGARET M. FERN HEIL, 87, FORMERLY OF POTTSTOWN Margaret M. "Marge" (Murray) Fern Heil, 87, of Brewer, Maine, formerly of Pottstown, Pa., and widow of William H. Heil, died Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the home of her grandson in Brewer, Maine. Born in S. Pottstown, Pa., she was the only daughter of the late Harvey Murray and the late F. Josephine (Towers) Murray. Margaret graduated from the former North Coventry High School in South Pottstown and spent her entire career at the former Stanley G. Flagg Co., as a secretary in the Engineering/Mechanical Drawing Dept. She was employed there during the company's acquisition by Amcast, which later closed the plant. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pottstown and attended there for much of her life, where she was also an active member of the Nifty Fifty choral group that would often be seen at many area nursing homes and hospitals, and was part of the nursery staff for years. She later attended St. James Lutheran Church in Pottstown until the death of her husband in 2011, when she relocated to Maine to be closer to family. Margaret was also an avid card player and was an active member in several card clubs in the Pottstown area during her life. She was also a passionate bowler, loved to travel and was known for her prolific crocheting projects. Surviving is one son, Michael D. Fern Sr., and his wife Patricia, of Orange Park, Fl.; two grandsons, Michael D. Fern Jr. and his wife Michelle, of Brewer, Maine, and Steven H. Fern, of Orange Park, Fl.; and two great-grandsons, Matthew S. Fern and Marshall D. Fern. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday June 20, 2014 from the Schumacher & Benner Funeral Home & Crematory, 359 King St., Pottstown. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Pottstown. There will be a viewing from 10 until 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in her memory to the First United Methodist Church, 414 High St., Pottstown, PA 19464.
