Leonard G. Weinsteiger Obituary
LEONARD G. WEINSTEIGER, 90, OF NEW BERLINVILLE Leonard G. Weinsteiger, 90, of New Berlinville, passed away on Wednesday, August, 20, 2014 in the Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Dorothy E. (Henry) Weinsteiger. Born in Bally, PA, he was oldest and last surviving son of Jennie Y. (Moyer) and George W. Weinsteiger. Leonard worked 35 years for the former Firestone Tire Company, Pottstown in production until his retirement in 1980. He served in the US Army during WWII in Normandy and in the Reinland. He loved talking about landing on Utah Beach and going to Army reunions. While he served in the Army he was a cook and baker. He was a member of St. Columbkill Roman Catholic Church, Boyertown. In his younger years Leonard loved to fly his model airplanes which he built himself. He enjoyed old cars and operating his CB Radio in the 1960s and '70s. Until recent years he loved going to car shows with his son Dennis; along with watching his favorite TV shows including Hogan's Heroes and McHale's Navy. Leonard loved feeding the birds outside of his house. Leonard was a Life Member of the Liberty Fire Company, American Legion in Boyertown, Battle of Normandy Foundation and the NRA. He is survived by his sons, Leonard G. Jr. husband of Ruth Weinsteiger of Bechtelsville and Dennis R. Weinsteiger of New Berlinville with whom he resided; four grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Judith Weinsteiger. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Columbkill RC Church, 200 Indian Spring Road, Boyertown. Relatives and friends may call Monday, August 25, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, Inc., 111 North Reading Ave., Boyertown; and Tuesday, August 26, 2014 between 9:45 - 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Most Blessed Sacrament Church Cemetery.
