M. BRUCE FEGLEY SR., 94, OF BOYERTOWN M. Bruce Fegley Sr., 94, of Boyertown, widower of Phyllis K. Fegley, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2014 at the Berkshire Center in Exeter. Born in Birdsboro on May 21, 1920 and raised in Pottstown, he was the son of the late Mahlon and Sarah (Feiring) Fegley. Bruce was a 1938 graduate of Pottstown High School and was the operator of Bruce Fegley's Esso Service Center (formerly Buckwalter & Shaw), High and Adams Street, in Pottstown. During the 1973-74 oil crisis, he rationed gas to his customers but always made sure the local doctors and the Goodwill Ambulance had all the gas they needed. After selling his service station he worked at Hatfield & Shaner, Pottstown for several years before retiring. Bruce married Phyllis E. Knaster in December 1949 and they lived at Moyer Road, Pottstown for 50 years where they raised their family until moving to Boyertown in 2005. Bruce was a loving father and a great family provider. He was a member of St Johns UCC, Price St., in Pottstown for many years. Bruce was a proud veteran and served on the destroyer escort USS Jordan (DE-204) from its commissioning until the end of World War II. He was a Yeoman first class. Surviving are his son Bruce Fegley, Jr., and wife Katharina Lodders-Fegley, of St. Louis, MO, his daughter Patricia Berger and husband Joel Berger, Gilbertsville, PA, his grandson Ryan Berger and wife Julie Berger, Lehigh Acres, FL, and 10 nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Bruce was predeceased by his wife Phyllis K. Fegley, Boyertown, and his brother Charles E. Fegley, Pottstown. A graveside funeral service will be held Monday, September 8, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Pottstown. Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 1020 E. Philadelphia Ave., Gilbertsville is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bruce's memory to The Salvation Army of Pottstown, 137 King St., Pottstown, PA 19464.
