Obituary Condolences

EVA LEE RANTANEN, 70, OF PHOENIXVILLE Eva Lee (Bullock) Rantanen, 70, of Phoenixville, PA, died at home on Thursday morning, November 8, 2012 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Lee was the wife of William Rantanen, the mother of Samuel (Casey Dzierlenga) Moyer and Lloyd (Christina Ellis) Moyer, and the Nana of Penelope Moyer. She was the stepmother of David (Gretchen) Rantanen, Eric (Kristen) Rantanen, and Robert Rantanen, and the Grammy of Blaise, Chase, Aaron, and Luke. Born in Doylestown on December 5, 1941 to Joseph and Eleanor Bullock, Lee was the eldest of their six "junkyard kids" who grew up in Warrington where her father operated a scrap metal yard for many years. Lee is survived by her siblings Nadine (Steve) Baxter of North Wales, PA, Larry (Dawn) Bullock of Jamison, PA, Wayne (Marge) Bullock of Warrington, PA, and Mark (Cory) Bullock of State College, PA. Her brother Warren (Ann) Bullock predeceased her in 1974. She is also survived by three nieces, six nephews, and the father of her sons, Dr. Paul Moyer of Doylestown, PA. Lee graduated from Central Bucks High School in Doylestown in 1959, then entered Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia from which she graduated in 1962. She embraced the challenges of her chosen profession and spent many years working with Dr. Robert G. Trout, esteemed cardiac surgeon. She traveled with Dr. Trout's teaching team and assisted him at international conferences on open-heart surgery. Lee's nursing career spanned 50 years and defined her nurturing spirit and caring nature. Lee's love of life extended to the natural world. As a lifelong gardener, she delighted in growing perennial flowers, especially peonies, roses, and day lilies. She and her husband Bill enjoyed tending to the Eastern Bluebirds that lived in their yard year after year. To think of Lee is to think of a woman of style. Her regal bearing and great sense of fashion made her a standout no matter where she was. Above all else, however, Lee loved and nurtured her family. Her greatest joys were her sons Sam and Lloyd, whose recent marriages gave her great happiness. The birth of her granddaughter Penny in 2011 completed her cycle of life. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Lee's life at Buckingham Friends Meeting, 5684 York Road, Lahaska, PA, on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Lee's family would appreciate donations in her memory be sent to the following: The Eva Lee Rananen Memorial Fund, 925 Chestnut Street, Suite 110, Philadelphia, PA 19107.
