Lucy DiMare
Highland - Lucy DiMare, 86, of Highland died Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. Born July 14, 1927 in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Sebastian and Rose Caruso.
Lucy was a seamstress in her earlier years. On November 18, 1945, she married the love of her life, Donoto (Dan) DiMare, who predeceased her on July 25, 1983 at the age of 57. Lucy and Dan enjoyed traveling. They visited Europe a few times, as well as Las Vegas and Florida. Lucy often spoke about meeting Liberace while in Las Vegas. Going to the opera and ballet was another enjoyment they shared.
Lucy enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and needlepoint until arthritis affected her hands. She was an avid reader, loved old western movies and collected elephant figurines.
She is survived by her children, Angela DiMare, Dan DiMare and his wife, Antoinette, and Valerie Schmidt and her husband, Greg; her grandchildren, Eric Bottali and his wife, Debra, Michael Schmidt and Daniella DiMare. Her great-granddaughter, Fallon Rose Bottali brought her much happiness in her final years.
Friends and relatives may call on Friday, May 23, 2014 from 4-7 pm at Copeland Funeral Home, Inc., 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz, NY. The funeral will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 10:00 am at Copeland Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Lloyd Cemetery, Highland.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Highland Fire Department, 25 Milton Avenue, Highland, NY 12528.
