Anthony P. Canino
Highland, NY - Anthony P Canino, 96 of Highland passed away Friday, March 8th at home. He was born November 14,1916 to Ralph & Rose (Lupia) Canino on Little Italy Rd in Highland, NY.
Anthony is survived by his wife of 62 years Theresa Canino, formerly Theresa Pantony. Sons Philip & his wife Yolanda Canino of Highland, Paul & his wife Elizabeth Canino of Highland, Patrick & his wife Margeurite Canino of New Paltz. Grandsons - Marc & wife Jamie Canino, Matthew & wife Lauren Canino, Douglas & wife Colleen Canino, Stephen Canino & girlfriend Sandra Roman, Philip Canino, Anthony J.& wife Sarah Canino, Patrick Canino & girlfriend Laura Schwarz and Nicholas Canino.
Great grandchildren - Allie & Jaidyn, Sophie & Ben, Gabe, Avery, Ayden, Wilton & Kathryn. Brother Ralph Canino & wife Janet, nephew James Canino, along with numerous other nephews, nieces and cousins. He was predecesed by his brothers - Dominick, Joseph, Gabe, Louis, Frank (Hankie) and sister Jennie Canino.
He is a Veteran of the United States Navy and worked at the DeLaval Seperator Co. in Poughkeepsie for 41 years. Anthony was a member of St. Augustine's church and local golf and bowling leagues. Later in life he enjoyed travel with Theresa to the Mediterranean, Alaska and the Caribbean. He could also be seen at Highland High school, the Highland little league or the Tony Williams field watching a son or grandson playing football, baseball or softball. His love of family, garden, good cigars, history, politics, the Hudson Valley, and wine was legendary and he will be missed.
Calling hours will be held Monday, March 11th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 38 Main Street, Highland, NY 12528. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday, March 12th 10:30 am at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church in Highland, followed by burial in Highland Cemetery. I first met Tony when he rode with me on a float for the Walkway Over the Hudson in a parade in Highland. It was a real pleasure to meet him and to talk with him. I treasure that time. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. He was a true gentleman.
