Ellowitz
DUNEDIN, FL - Henry Joseph Ellowitz of Marlboro, NY and retiring in Clearwater, FL died unexpectedly on November 4, 2012 riding his bicycle on The Dunedin Causeway.
Born February 21, 1943 in Stamford, CT to the late David and Fanny Ellowitz who survives in Poughkeepsie, NY.
Henry grew up on Staten Island, NY graduating from Curtis HS in 1960.
Joined the United States Coast Guard stationed in Hawaii and Japan as a cook. His final 2 years were stationed at Indian River Inlet, Delaware where he met and married Barbara Mitchell 6 weeks later on November 13, 1964.
Henry drove for White Packing Co. of Lewes, DE. Given an opportunity, he relocated his family to Wappingers Falls, NY where he became a printer at the Southern Dutchess News for 12 years. He then worked for American Lumber Co. of Chelsea, NY driving a flat bed lumber truck for 25 years earning the CB handle "Stretch". Henry was proud to be a member of Local Union 445. From there he worked for Cardinal Health driving "pups" for 10 years.
Henry leaves behind his wife Barbara Ellowitz "BarBars"; they would have been married 48 years on November 13th. His daughters Sara Jane Ellowitz "Aunt Snippy" and her significant other Thomas Coupart of Marlboro NY. Nancy Jean Kraiza "Guna" and her husband Mike. Henry's beloved grandchildren Kayleigh Christine Muggeo "Cakes", Cameron Barrie Weeks "Bad Hat", Nicholas Charles Muggeo "Snickers". Meagan Anita Kraiza and Micheal Alanson Kraiza. His beloved mini schnauzer "Penny".
Henry is survived by his brother Peter Benjamin Ellowitz and his wife Joyce Shapiro-Ellowitz of Worcester, MA. A nephew Isacc David of Worcester, MA. A sister Joan Beth Kalivas of Albuequrque, NM.
Henry was an avid reader and walker. He belonged to the Long Center where he was known as "The Mayor". Henry was proud to be able to swim 72 laps 6 days a week. On Sundays he rode his bike 40 miles throughout the Pinellas Trail and the Dunedin Causeway.
