Frances
Gotthardt
PLEASANT VALLEY - Frances Gotthardt passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family and friends, on November 3, 2012, at the Lutheran Care Center. She was 86 years old.
Frances was born on January 9, 1926, in Florida, N.Y., to the late Gregory Christopian and Stephanie Degumbia.
In 1944 she graduated from the Newburgh Free Academy.
When she joined the A & P Company, Frances was sent for training to become a bookkeeper, a position she enjoyed for many years.
She married Albert Gotthardt on June 8, 1947, who predeceased her.
Frances is survived by her daughters, Susan Adams and husband Mark; Margaret Minard and husband Vernon; and Deanna Dunn; granddaughter Becky Adams and husband Michael Gallagher, and great granddaughters Ambika and Priya, all who reside in Poughkeepsie, NY; sister Virginia Bechard, of Beacon, NY and brother Joseph Christopian of Alabama, and many nieces and nephews.
Frances was predeceased by her brothers Gregory, Michael, and Frank Christopian, and sister Mary Garrera.
Frances was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.
She was one of the first employees of the former Grand Union in Pleasant Valley and worked there until her retirement in May 1992.
She was an active member of Home Bureau and Pleasant Valley Seniors, serving as treasurer and president.
Frances loved children and volunteered for the reading program at West Road School. Her face would light up at the sight of her two little great grandchildren.
She was an avid gardener, known for her beautiful hibiscus plants, and loved to sew, crochet and create beautiful craft projects.
Frances was a great baker; her daughters compiled a cookbook in her memory, featuring some of her favorite recipes.
Although we'll miss that wonderful smile, we have many beautiful memories of Frances.
Her family would like to thank the staff at the Lutheran Care Center for their devoted and loving care.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 9, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main St., Pleasant Valley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 10 am from St. Stanislaus Church, Main St., Pleasant Valley.
Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Home Bureau scholarship and may be sent to Ardythe Heiser, New York State Federation of Home Bureaus, Inc., 8077 Route 12, Barneveld, NY 13304, please make check payable to New York State Federation of Home Bureaus, Inc.

Our heartfelt condolences to cousins Sue, Margaret, and Deanna and their families.
Aunt Fran was a strong, independent woman, who would voice her opinion with a smile and a twinkle in her eye. She was a lady of many talents who will be greatly missed.

Thoughts and Prayers are with you all during this difficult time. Mrs. Gotthardt was a nice lady and a great cook. I remember mowing her lawn and always talking to her about the world and its ways...
