Archie Elwood Williams

Poughkeepsie - Archie Elwood Williams (a.k.a. A.D.),71, passed away at St. Francis Hospital after a long illness on June 3, 2014. Born June 9, 1942 in Sampson County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Annie J. Williams-Whitted and the late Paul Parker and his late step-father Strange H. Whitted. Archie moved to Highland, NY when he was 5 years old and was educated in the Highland School District. He played sports and was known as "Baby Block Buster" on the football team. He loved living in Highland; he said it was his home. A.D. loved playing cards, bowling, talking, making jokes and listening to his music; he loved the 50s and Elvis Presley. A.D. had a passion for driving trucks; he is quoted as saying he was the best truck driver around. He drove trucks for Ninni Construction, DeGroot Trucking, and Provera Farms. He was a local business owner in Poughkeepsie, NY for Marjos Bar, A.D.'s Taxi Service, and several blacktop companies. Archie is survived by his loving companion Lisa M. Minckler, his children Allison Truman of Buffalo, NY, Juley Scott Williams of Arizona, Michael Truman of Handover, MD, Michelle Williams of Arizona, Shaun Williams of New Paltz, NY, Samantha and Mike VanTassell of Poughkeepsie, NY, Paul Minckler (Patricia Pulichene) of Poughkeepsie, NY, A.D. Williams (Betsy Martell) of Poughkeepsie, NY, Savanna Sherow of Poughkeepsie, NY and a son-in-law William Smart of Poughkeepsie, NY. He is also survived by his aunt Reverend Frances J. Williams of Poughkeepsie, NY, his stepbrothers Harold Whitted of Utica, NY, Clifton O'Neal of Utica, NY, and Richard Whitted of Saugerties, NY. A host of cousins, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as many, many friends also survive. He is predeceased by his sister Shirley Summerville-Anderson, maternal grandparents Mary Lee Hobbs-Williams and Archie Davis Williams, his children Bryant Williams, Cynthia Smart, and Serina Williams, and a special pre-deceased friend Police Officer John Falcone. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 from 5:00PM - 8:00PM at the William G. Miller & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
