POUGHKEEPSIE - Belle Rosenberg 99, of Poughkeepsie passed away peacefully on Friday, February 22, 2013 at Wingate at Dutchess in Fishkill.
Born in Indianapolis, IN. on December 28, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Rabbi S.I. Levin and Bessie Moss Levin. Her parents moved to Minneapolis, MN where she and her 5 siblings were raised and educated. Belle attended the University of Minnesota
as well as business college. She was proud of attaining every position she ever applied for.
She was employed by the Dutchess County Finance Department in Poughkeepsie for 20 years until she retired. Following retirement she spent 4 wonderful years with her husband, Herbert S. Rosenberg. Belle met the gentlemanly Herb in Atlantic City, where she nobly served as liaison at Haddon Hall, a facility for wounded soldiers needing prosthetic aids. It is indicative of Belle's kindness and generous spirit how she served those brave men. Belle and Herb were married in Poughkeepsie on March 24, 1946.
"I've had a wonderful life," Belle said of her 99 years. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and loving family.
Belle is survived by her son , Louis H. Rosenberg of Poughkeepsie and his children, Jessica Rosenberg and Nathaniel Herbert Rosenberg of Nashville, TN, and Lou's stepson, Kenneth Cheshire and his son Ozzy, also of Nashville; her sister, Esther Porath of Jerusalem, Israel; her brother, Dr. Bernard Lawrence and his wife Sylvia of Palm Springs, CA, as well as her nephew, Jonathan Porath, his wife Deena and their 5 children, and her niece, Sara Porath Katz and her husband Jonathan and their daughter Rebecca of Brooklyn; niece Blanche(Rosenberg) Bergman and her husband Louis of Poughkeepsie and their 3 daughters, Carlie, Susan and Robin Bergman; nephew Lawrence H. Rosenberg of Poughkeepsie; and nephew Michael H. Rosenberg of Saratoga,NY, his son Adam and his wife Melody Reis, daughter Beth, her husband Tom and their 5 children; and her extended family, Marvin and Ruth Bergman of Poughkeepsie, their daughters Sharon and Jennifer and their children.
Belle was laid to rest beside her beloved Herbie at Temple Beth El Cemetery on Monday, February 25, 2013. Her memory will live on and be celebrated by all who knew and loved her.
