Bertha J. Oles

Hyde Park - Bertha J. Oles, 91, a lifelong Hyde Park resident, died Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck.

Born in Hyde Park on May 18, 1921, she was the daughter of the late George J. and Grace Thompkins Craft. She attended elementary school at the former one-room Fallkill School in Hyde Park and was a graduate of the former Staatsburg Union Free School.

A homemaker, Mrs. Oles loved her family and hearing about her grandchildren's accomplishments and experiences.

She proudly served in the Women's Army Corps during World War II.

On January 28, 1945 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Rhinebeck, she married Sterling F. Oles. Mr. Oles predeceased her on September 13, 1996.

Bertha is survived by her son, Clayton S. Oles and wife, Genie, of Hyde Park; daughter-in-law, Arlene Oles of Hyde Park; daughter-in-law, Teri Oles of Ravena, NY; four grandchildren, Clayton Oles and wife, Andrea, Bonnie Ottilo, Kelly Ross and husband, Justin, and Kristine Jones and husband, Kevin; great grandchildren, Garrett and Katy Oles, Peter, Lily, and Justin Ottilo, Andrew Ross, and Karley Jones; sister, Stella Zarra and husband, Ralph, of Hyde Park; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her two sons, Robert and William Oles; brother, Everett Craft; and two sisters, Marie Wood and Irene Post.

Calling hours will be from 10 to 11 am, Monday, February 25th at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.

Funeral services will follow at 11 am at The Funeral Home with Rev. Arlene Dawber officiating.

Burial will be in the family plot in Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
