Carl A. Baskin
Wappingers Falls - Carl A. Baskin, a local-area resident for 35 years, died at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in Manhattan on Sunday, September 8, 2013 after a year-long battle with cancer. He was 71.
Son of the late Jacob and Anna (Schwartz) Baskin, Carl was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 5, 1941. He received his undergraduate and Master's degrees from New York University
. He spent his career as an Electrical Engineer for IBM in various states across the Northeast region, retiring from the East Fishkill site in 1995. He also spent 9 months in Washington D.C. as a visiting instructor of Electrical Engineering at Howard University.
Carl was a photographer and had a true passion for this hobby. He did some professional work as well throughout his lifetime, capturing moments at weddings and other events. He was a longtime member of the Mid-Hudson Photography Club.
On July 6, 1986, he married Phyllis M. Smith in Cold Spring. Mrs. Baskin survives at home in Wappingers Falls.
Additional survivors include his daughter, Dawn Leslie Baskin of Sebastopol, CA; his son, David Samuel Baskin of Manhattan, NY; his son, Steven Michael Baskin of Philadelphia, PA; his brother, Lloyd Baskin & his wife Sylvia of New Jersey; and his brother, Herb Baskin of California. Carl is also survived by several nieces and other loving relatives & friends.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 12 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Funeral Service will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 13 at the funeral home, followed by interment at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
