POUGHKEEPSIE - Catherine E. "Lillian" Kuhn, 95, a Poughkeepsie resident for most of her life, died peacefully at home in the arms of her daughter on Sunday, December 2, 2012. Born in Little Ferry, New Jersey, on April 28, 1917, Lillian moved with her family to Poughkeepsie when she was six years old. She was the daughter of Achilles W. Malet and Christina Quinlan Malet and the sister of William, Frank and Eugene Malet, and Mary (Malet) Miller, all of whom pre-deceased her. Lillian's father, "A.W.," was a window-dresser at Macy's department store in New York City and was involved with the formation of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. Mr. Malet brought his family to Poughkeepsie in 1923 when he took the job of head window dresser for Lucky, Platt & Co. department store in Poughkeepsie. Lillian and her siblings all attended Saint Mary School and Poughkeepsie High School. On June 30, 1945, Lillian married John J. Kuhn, best known as a radio personality on WKIP in Poughkeepsie, and later as the radio voice of Central Hudson Gas and Electric Company. Mr. Kuhn died in 1983. Lillian worked as a dental assistant prior to her marriage, but considered her most important work to be raising her children and serving as a volunteer at Saint Mary's school and church and at Saint Francis Hospital. In 2005, at the age of 88, she was honored by the hospital for 52 years of volunteer service. She continued her volunteer work and community service at the Manor at Woodside in Poughkeepsie where she resided for the past eight years. Lillian is survived by her two children, Mary Anne (Kuhn) Greene of Washington, CT, and her husband Douglas, Deacon Peter Kuhn of Brookfield, CT, and his wife Joyce, and three grandchildren, Jennifer (Kuhn) Birdseye, and Elizabeth (Greene) Gibbs and Jonathan Greene, and four great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her fourth grandchild, David Kuhn, died in August 2012. The family will receive family and friends at the William G. Miller and Son F.H., Inc., 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603 on Thursday, December 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 7 at 10 a.m. at Saint Mary's Church, 231 Church Street, Poughkeepsie, NY. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in the Town of Poughkeepsie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie, or Saint Mary Church.
