David C. "Jake" Scism
Red Hook - David C. "Jake" Scism, 69, a lifelong Red Hook resident, died Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at his home.
Born on August 12, 1943, in Rhinebeck, NY, he was the son of the late Sterling Byron Scism and Irene Evelyn (Loomis) Scism. He was a graduate of Red Hook High School.
Jake married Karen Rifenburgh in September of 1987 at Christ Church in Red Hook, she survives at home.
For many years, Jake worked as an equipment operator for NYS Department of Transportation, based in both Red Hook and Clinton Corners.
Jake enjoyed working in his garden and also cooking. He was a former member of the Red Hook Fire Co.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters; Melissa Scism of Red Hook, and Tina Scism of Rhinebeck, his four sisters; Patricia Minkler of South Carolina, Barbara Minn of Red Hook, Shirley Zanchelli of Germantown, and Karen Lang of Saugerties, a brother; Sterling Scism of Hudson, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife; Debra L. (Seidel) Scism, stepfather, Edward Scism; a sister; Charlotte Keeler, three brothers; Edward, David, and William Scism.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 18, 2013 at Burnett & White Funeral Homes, Red Hook. The Reverend Fred C. Cartier will officiate. Burial will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook.
Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Sunday from 2 - 4 PM.
