Dora V. Gruntler
Tivoli - Dora V. Gruntler, 84, of Tivoli, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at her home.
A longtime Tivoli resident, for many years she served as the Tivoli Village Clerk. Active in the Tivoli community, she taught 4H, and was a life member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star. For a number of years she was the Vice President of Tivoli Farms, and Tivoli Properties Inc. An active member of St. Paul's & Trinity Episcopal Parish in Tivoli, she was the first woman elected to serve on the Vestry and was a co-founder of the parish's Altar Guild and Sunday School. She was involved and supported a capture/release program for feral felines in the Village of Tivoli.
Dora, an exceptional cook and an accomplished seamstress, also loved to knit, crochet, draw, paint, and garden.
Born in New York City on Oct. 11, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Rosco Dalton and Carmen Rodriquez Dalton Marquez.
Dora married Frederick F. Gruntler on November 23, 1944 in Red Hook. He predeceased her on January 25, 1979.
She is survived by a daughter: Rita Roussos of Red Hook, NY, a son & daughter-in-law Gregory (Terri) Gruntler of Boiceville, NY, two granddaughters: Jessica (Andrew) Berkowitz of Hyde Park, NY, and Paula Roussos of Poughkeepsie, NY, two step-granddaughters: Kristina (Rocco) German of Kingston, NY, and Melissa (Gregory) Allen of Kingston, NY, seven great grandchildren: Maddisyn Hajba, Ian Berkowitz, Ana Berkowitz, MacKenzie German, Kambria German, Nathan Allen, and Justin Allen. Several nieces & nephews also survive her.
Her two sisters: Gladys Alacci, and Anna Dalton, predeceased her. She is also predeceased by a loving step-father Emmanuel Marquez.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM on Saturday, Oct 13th, at Burnett & White Funeral Home, 7461 S. Broadway, Red Hook. Interment in Red Church Cemetery, Tivoli, will be private.
Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the memorial service on Saturday, Oct 13th, from 4 - 7 PM.
