STORMVILLE - Dorothy Helen Archer, 86, a resident of Midlothian, VA since 2003 and formerly of Stormville, died on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at her home following a long illness.
Born in Mount Vernon on March 16, 1926, she was the daughter of Peter Joseph and Helen Sabo Russell. Dot had been a foster care mother for the New York Foundling, lovingly caring for 15 children. She had been a member of St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction, the Stormville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, and The Grange in Stormville.
Dot taught ceramic classes in her home and was particularly well known for her beautiful handcrafted porcelain dolls. She was an avid square dancer and a many times doubles champion in dartball.
On October 12, 1946 in Mount Vernon, Dot married Paul Roderick Archer who predeceased her on December 8, 2005. She is survived by her children, Sandra Lee Bohl of FL, Paul Roderick Archer, Jr. and his significant other, Lucy of Kingston, Susan Helen Petokas and husband Peter of Tunkhannock, PA, Diane Patricia Williams and husband Gary of Midlothian, VA, Harry Archer of Wappingers Falls and Lillian Fuller of Kingston; her grandchildren, Rebecca Brown, Tamara Brown, Sara Petokas, Emily Petokas, Audrey Fuller and Hunter Fuller; her great-grandchildren, Dana and Bobby Brown; her brother, Kenneth Russell of Albany; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson, Peter Petokas.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 11am at St. Denis Cemetery, 604 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction.
