Elsie S. Rack
Hyde Park - Elsie Louise Schaefer Rack, 91, a lifelong area resident, came to rest in the arms of her heavenly father on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie.
Born on her family farm on Ruskey Lane in Hyde Park on June 21, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Rudolf Schaefer and Marie Rohs Schaefer Lorey. She attended the Shady Dell School and was a 1939 graduate of Staatsburg High School.
Mrs. Rack was a secretary for Mack Truck Co. in Poughkeepsie and a Clerk at Capital Bakery in Hyde Park.
Elsie was a member of the Shekomeko Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as Matron in 1975, and a member of the Hyde Park Fire Dept. Auxiliary and Rescue Squad.
Mrs. Rack was also a member of the Hyde Park Reformed Dutch Church, where she was part of the church's choir.
Her hobbies included reading, quilting, sketching, painting with watercolors, camping, and fishing.
On August 13, 1942 in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Poughkeepsie, she married Ernest Henry Rack Jr. He predeceased her on January 15, 2004.
She is survived by her son, James Rack of Grand Rapids, MN; two daughters, Barbara Sciacca and husband, Joseph, of Hardy, VA, and Nancy Miner and husband, James, of Redford, NY; daughter-in-law, Barbara Rack of Fairfield, WV; six grandchildren, Joslyn Kirby and husband, Matthew, Gillian Sciacca, Jessica and Amanda Rack, and Stephen and David Miner; two great granddaughters; sister, Lorraine Erani of Hyde Park; two brothers, Robert Schaefer and wife, Irene, of Hyde Park, and Paul Lorey and wife, Dolores, of W. Berlin, NJ; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Ernest H. Rack III; brother, Karl Schaefer; and two sisters, Rose Schaefer, and Clara Schaefer Henderson.
There are no calling hours.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 pm, Sunday December 16th at the Hyde Park Reformed Dutch Church. Rev. Dr. Donald Heringa will officiate.
Inurnment with her husband's ashes will be in the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
