Eva Desmond

Clermont - Eva Desmond, 78, of Clermont, a faithful wife, devoted mother and beloved grandmother, passed peacefully through the doorway to eternal life on Saturday, March 30th, 2013 at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck.

Eva was a longtime communicant of St. Christopher's Church in Red Hook and Holy Trinity Parish of Germantown and Hudson.

Throughout her life Eva's focus was always on her family, especially preparing food for them. No matter what time of night you arrived home, if you were hungry she would cook something for you. In later years, her grandchildren all knew that at Grandma's house you could have whatever you wanted for breakfast-even pasta with her famous meatballs and sauce. To those outside the immediate family, she will forever be remembered for her lasagna and Christmas cookies. In earlier years, Eva also volunteered for Meals on Wheel in Red Hook.

Born September 30th, 1934, in Millbury, MA, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Zona) Mongilio.

Eva married Robert Desmond on May 7th, 1960 in Millbury, MA and he survives at home.

In addition to her loving and devoted husband, she is survived by her two daughters; Theresa Desmond of Red Hook, and BethAnn (Arthur) Proper of Kinderhook, her two sons; David Desmond (Jennifer) of Rochester, NY, and John Desmond (Debbie) of Pepperell, MA, and her grandchildren; Rachael, Nicholas, Maggie, Anthony, and Monica Desmond, and Heidi, and Phillip Proper.

Eva was predeceased by a sister; Eleanor Love, and a brother, Robert Mongilio.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Monday, April 8th, 2013 at St. Christopher's Church, Red Hook. Fr. Winston Bath will be officiating. Burial will be at St. Sylvia's Cemetery, Tivoli.

Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Sunday, April 7th, 2013 from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 PM. A Scriptural Rosary will be prayed at 4 pm.

Memorial donations may be made in Eva's memory to the St. Christopher's Church, 7411 S. Broadway, Red Hook, NY 12571 or to Holy Trinity Parish, 429 Allen St., Hudson, NY 12534.
