Evelyn L. Darling
Poughkeepsie - Evelyn L. Darling, age 79, of Poughkeepsie died Sunday, February 24, 2013, after a 2 ½ year courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Evelyn was born November 29, 1933 in Kingston, NY to Clifford and Irene (True) Reeder.
She graduated from Arlington High School in 1951 and Vassar Brothers Hospital School of Nursing in 1954.
On July 24, 1955 she married Leo J. Darling at the Arlington Reformed Church in Poughkeepsie. He predeceased her on December 22, 2010.
Evelyn was a member of the Pleasant Valley Methodist Church, the Vassar Brothers Hospital Alumni Association and Club 60. She loved to travel, read, and work outside. She enjoyed spending her winters at her home in Florida. She was always willing to help others and was a dear friend to many. Her family was her greatest love of all.
She was a loving mother to son Gary J. Darling (Cheryl), daughters Karen DeFraia, Shari Schwarze (Peter) and Kathi Miller (Michael). She was an adoring grandmother to Jason (Jenna) and Erik Darling, Anthony (Kelly) and Danielle DeFraia, Kelli and Ryan Schwarze, Courtney and Scott Miller. She was the proud great-grandmother of Olivia Evelyn DeFraia and Emma Lynn Darling.
She is also survived by her sister Dolores (John) Michaloski, sisters-in-law Lois Gibson, Doris (Homer) Rikert and brother-in-law Dean (Suzanne) Darling and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers-in-law Lynn Darling and William Gibson and nephew Bruce Michaloski.
Calling hours will be Friday, March 1, 2013 from 4pm to 8pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY.
The funeral will be held 9:00 am on Saturday March 2, 2013 at The Pleasant Valley Methodist Church, 92 Martin Road, Pleasant Valley, NY.
