Dr. Francis H.
Dr. Francis H. Darragh, 89, a resident of Millbrook, NY passed away on Thursday, October, 4, 2012 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was born on December 29, 1922 in Paterson, NJ, the son of John H. Darragh and Sinclair Joseph.
Dr. Darragh was a graduate of St. Peter's University, Paterson, NJ in 1943; New York University
School of Medicine in 1946; Internship at Lenox Hill Hospital in 1947 and Residency in Anesthesia at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in 1960-1962.
Dr. Darragh was a member of the U.S. Army
stationed at West Point at the Post Hospital. Following his Honorable Discharge from the Army, he set up General Practice in Highland Falls, NY. He joined the Poughkeepsie Anesthesia Group and practiced at Vassar Brothers Medical Center until his retirement in 1985. He was the first board certified anesthesiologist at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Dr. Darragh was also Chief of the Department of Anesthesia and President of the Medical and Dental Staff for two terms.
Dr. Darragh was a devout Roman Catholic and was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis at Mt. Alvernia Retreat Center, Wappingers Falls, NY.
Dr. Darragh is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Helena; daughter, Joan Darragh and family friend Winifred Tuttle of Poughkeepsie, NY; son, John and wife, Denise of Wayne, NJ; son, Paul and wife, Megan of Southbury, CT; and daughter, Margaret Castelli and husband, Jack of Poughkeepsie, NY; sister and brother-in-law, Lillian and Charles McCarthy of Issaqua, WA; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and brothers John, Kenneth, Richard and nephew Richard.
Calling hours will be Monday, October 8, 2012 from 3 - 7 pm at The Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc. 218 Mill Street Poughkeepsie NY 12601. Wheelchair entrance is located in the rear of funeral home on Vassar St.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10am at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Poughkeepsie on Tuesday, October 9, 2012. Interment will follow at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
