BEEKMAN - Francis Kenneth Temple, 91, a resident of the Town of Beekman since 1964 and formerly of LaGrangeville and Ossining, died on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at the Wingate at Ulster.
Born in New Rochelle on August 31, 1921, he was the son of Earl and Marguerite Virrill Temple. Ken proudly served our country as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army Air Corps during World War II
. He flew 28 combat missions as a ball turret gunner on the "Flying Fortress" in the European Theater. His plane went down in the English Channel. He was awarded 5 Oak Leaf Cluster Medals and was recommended for the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was employed as a railroad engineer for New York Central Railroad in Poughkeepsie for 40 years until his retirement in 1983. A marksman, he enjoyed hunting and woodworking.
On July 21, 1945 in Briarcliff, Ken married Eileen Ludlam who survives at home. He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Richard and Susan Temple of Verbank, David and Karen Temple of Poughquag, Kevin and Judy Temple of Poughkeepsie, Maureen and Nelson Cancel of Poughquag; his grandchildren, Tammy and Michael Temple, Kyle, Kirk and Keith Cancel, Heather and Ellen Temple; his siblings, Pat Martin, Jean Gowey, Terry Barrett, Celine Breitenbach and Paul Temple; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be private under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Memorial donations may be made to the Beekman Rescue Squad, PO Box 568, Poughquag, NY 12570.
