Fred G. Von Husen
Rhinebeck - Fred Gunther Von Husen, 83, of Rhinebeck and Sarasota , Fl, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Northern Dutchess Hospital.
Fred was a longtime Rhinebeck resident and owner of Von Husen's Quality Meats from 1959-1978. He was a very active member of the Rhinebeck community and was very proud of his memberships in the American Legion Montgomery Post #429 , the Rhinebeck Fire Department, Rhinebeck Lodge #432 F.&A.M., The Red Hook-Rhinebeck Elks Lodge
#2022, the Rhinebeck Rotary Club
and the Good Shepherd Church.
After retiring from the store in Rhinebeck, Fred became a Certified Culinary Teacher at the CIA in the area of Charcuterie. He was a member of the American Culinary Federation and was awarded Instructor of the Year.
Fred served as in the United States Marine Corps
from 1949-1952 and as Corporal in the United States Army from 1952-1954.
Fred was the son of Carl and Elise Von Husen.
He was predeceased by his wife Mathilda (Fischer) Von Husen.
He is survived by two sons Robert, and his wife Clara of Farmington Hills, MI, and Richard, and his wife Patricia of Rhinebeck; two grandchildren, Lynette and Erik Von Husen; a sister-in-law Elizabeth Janovsky of The Villages, Fl; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Harold Von Husen.
There are no calling hours.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, 11 AM, at the Good Shepherd Church, 94 East Market St., Rhinebeck.
