MOORESVILLE - George Michael "Mike" Cronin, 79, of Mooresville, North Carolina and formerly of Hampstead, North Carolina and Hopewell Junction, died on Friday, October 18, 2013 in Mooresville.
Born on February 26, 1934 in Joppa, Maryland, he was the son of the late Michael and Gertrude Cronin. Mike married Jane Lown on January 15, 1956 at St. Denis Church. His wife of 55 years predeceased him on June 7, 2011.
Mike was an Air Traffic Controller in the US Air Force for 20 years until his retirement in 1972, and served in the Korean and Vietnam War
s. After his retirement from the Air Force, Mike worked at Stewart Airport also as an Air Traffic Contoller and then as a Supervisor at Dutchess County Airport with the FFA. Mike loved playing golf with his wife, and also enjoyed carving wood.
He is survived by his children, Michael Cronin and his wife Patricia of Florida, Michele A. Cronin of Hopewell Junction, and Patrick Cronin of Hopewell Junction; his grandchildren, Michael and Sean Cronin, Nicholas and Lydia Hughes, Jennifer, Jake, Garrett, Mackenzie and Morgan Cronin; his sisters-in-law, Lillian Caruso, Arlene Lown and Minnie Lown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by inurnment in St. Denis Cemetery with military honors.
