Gerard "Jerry" Teeling

POUGHKEEPSIE - Jerry passed away at home surrounded by his family on Nov 18th. Born in Jersey City NJ on Oct 6,1930 he was the son of the late John and Anne (O'Neill) Teeling. He graduated from Dickinson High School, Jersey City, NJ and received his bachelor of Science from Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ. He enlisted in the Air Force and served during the Korean War. On Nov 28th 1959 he married his best friend Anne Marie Murphy at Sacred Heart Church in Jersey City NJ. Together they have four children Karen (Peter) Procopio, Eileen ( Chris) Devenny, James (Terry) Teeling, Deirdre (Ramon) Caamano. Jerry began his career with IBM in Jersey City in 1960. In 1979 the family moved to Poughkeepsie from Roselle Park, NJ. Jerry worked in the East Fishkill IBM facility holding several managerial positions, ending as facility engineer until his retirement in 1991. He received five "IBM means service" awards and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. Jerry lived his life to serve the church and his family. He enjoyed golf, playing the piano, watercolor painting, dancing, car shows and his many family trips to Long Beach Island, NJ. While in Roselle Park he was a parishioner of Assumption Church. There he was president of the Holy Name Society. He was named Catholic Man of the Year in 1976. He was a member of the Knights of

Columbus Carroll Council. He was a parishioner of St. Martin de Porres where he was the first president of the Parish Council, Eucharistic Minister and choir member. Jerry established the Memorial Walkway to the unborn at St Martin de Porres. He was also chairperson for The Right To Life for many years.

Jerry was the Charter Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 7551 in St Martin de Porres. He was also the Charter 4th Degree Faithful Navigator, and established the Knights of the Alter at St Martin de Porres. Jerry was a giving person to all, he would help anyone in need. He was very creative both artistically and when it came to fixing or building things at home.

He will be missed by all that were blessed to have known him, most importantly his loving wife and adoring children. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Christina, Nicholas and Matthew Procopio, Andrew, Kelly and Ryan Devenny, Brian Underkoffler and Jimmy Teeling, Jr. His brother Aidan C. Teeling and sister Maureen Baldauf of Sunrise Fl., sister in law Eileen (Charles) Boyle of Staten Island, Bob Bartole of Sunrise Fl. Special friends "Tobruk" and the "Bagel Bunch". He was pre-deceased by his brothers John Pearce, Joseph and his sister Etna.

The family would like to thank Hudson Valley Hospice for their compassionate care, especially Sylvia, Jen, Pat, Laura and Dee. A special thanks to Cindy for her in home nursing care. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 20, 2013, 4-8PM at the Wm. G. Miller & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. The K of C #7551 will hold a Memorial Service during the visitation. A Mass Of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10 AM in St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Burial will follow in the family plot in Calvary Cemtery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: St. Martins de Porres Church 118 Cedar Valley Rd.
