Helen M. Callahan
HOPEWELL JUNCTION - Helen M. Callahan, 74, a resident of Hopewell Junction and formerly of Yonkers, died on Friday, November 23, 2012 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born in Mount Vernon on June 1, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Dennis and Helen (Callanan) O'Brien. On October 1, 1960, she married Gerard Callahan at Sacred Heart Church in Mount Vernon. Her beloved husband of 52 years survives at home.
Helen was a dedicated parishioner at St. Columba Church. She was a Past President of the St. Denis-St. Columba Altar Rosary Society, where she was an active member for over 40 years. One of her favorite activities was organizing the Treasure Chest Table at the annual St. Columba Craft Fair. She also volunteered for many years at St. Denis-St. Columba School.
In addition to her husband, Helen is survived by her daughter, Patricia M. Callahan of Wayland, MA; her sister-in-law, Kathy Callahan of Poughquag; and many loving friends including the "Lunch Bunch" and especially Mary Ann Leddy, Ellie Neuwirth, and Pauline Pluhar.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment at St. Denis Cemetery.
