POUGHKEEPSIE - Irene Sherman died Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at home. She was born February 16, 1946 in New York City. Her parents were Henry and Sophie Linder. Irene graduated from James Monroe High School in the Bronx. She worked for the New York City Department of Welfare and later Hudson River Psychiatric Center where she was the Assistant Director of Volunteer Services. On October 31, 1965 she married Ethan Sherman who survives at home. She leaves behind a son, Adam Sherman and his wife Sharon, a daughter Rachael Sherer and her husband Lee, and three grandchildren: Evelyn Sherer, Jordana Sherman and Levi Sherman. Irene is survived by her brother Martin Linder, his wife Shelia and her nephews Robert Linder and Dr. Howard Linder both of New York City. Irene was a member of Temple Beth-El and a former member of Woman's American ORT. Irene enjoyed reading and doing needlepoint. She also loved spending time with family and friends. She will be sorely missed. Services will be Friday, April 26, 2013, 12 Noon at Temple Beth-El, 118 South Grand Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Rabbi Neal Loevinger will officiate. Burial will follow in the family plot in Temple Beth-El Cemetery, Rt. 44, Poughkeepsie, NY. Arrangements are under the direction of Wm. G.
