Benson Sr.

Hyde Park - James Albert Benson, Sr., 73, a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at Vassar Bros. Medical Center, Poughkeepsie.

Born May 16, 1940 in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of the late Paul Benson and Esther Kipp Benson Ingraham. He was also predeceased by his step-father, William (Bill) Ingraham.

He attended Wappingers Schools.

A member of Teamsters Local #445, Jim worked for Rainbow News and Queen City News for 32 years, retiring in September, 1995.

He was a member of the Exempt Firemen's Association and the Vail Wolff McKenna Frye VFW Post #170, both in Poughkeepsie. He was also a past member of the Crum Elbow Sportsmen's Assoc., Hyde Park.

Jim enjoyed camping, hunting and working in his yard. He also enjoyed communicating on his CB radio as 'nightrunner', working on cars, watching the NY Yankees and football, and spending time with his friends.

On February 11, 1962 in Wappingers Falls, he married the former Jean Doran. Mrs. Benson survives at home.

In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his daughter, Patricia Ladensack and husband, Otto, of Durham, NC.; son, Robert Benson and wife, Sarah, of Ulster Park; son, Shawn Benson, of Bethesda, MD; grandchildren, Nicole and Emily Ladensack, and Cameron Benson; sister, Sylvia Couse of Red Hook; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and step-father, Jim was predeceased by his son, James A. Benson, Jr.; sister, Esther Valyou; and brother, Paul Benson.

In keeping with Jim's wishes, there will be no services and cremation has taken place.

The Benson family respectfully requests memorial donations to the Roosevelt Fire District, 265 Cream St., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
