James P. Gallagher
Poughkeepsie - James P. Gallagher, 87, a lifelong area resident, died Monday, October 14, 2013, at St Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie with his loving family by his side.
Born December 17, 1925 in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of the late Charles and Marion Cunningham Gallagher.
Jim proudly served in the U.S. Navy
from 1944 to 1946.
He worked for Standard Gage Co. in Poughkeepsie as a Lead Machinist for 37 years, retiring in 1988. After retiring, he worked for the Hyde Park Central School District from 1988 to 1991.
Jim was a life member of the VailWolff McKenna-Frye VFW
Post 170 and the Hyde Park Senior Citizens.
On May 30, 1948 in Poughkeepsie, he married the former Betty V. Polk. Mrs. Gallagher predeceased him on February 22, 2011.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Corinne Ringwood and husband, James; son, James S. Gallagher and wife, Inge; sister, Catherine Gover; brother, Robert Gallagher; grandchildren, Stephanie and Kimberly Ann Barton, Kristine and Jamie Ringwood, Patty Zawistowski, and Tina Goldman; great grandchildren, Alyssa Douglass, D'Angelo, Clifton, Sierra, Christian, and Kelsey Williams, Julianna and Kevin Hocutt, Thomas Miller, Gabrielle Goldman, and Ryan and Erica Zawistowski; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling Hours are on Thursday, October 17, 2013 from 4 to 7 PM at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Funeral Services on Friday, October 18th at 1 PM at the funeral home, the Rev. Randall Prentiss officiating.
Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, with Military Honors.
