Janet Catherine Seils Simonson
Poughkeepsie - Janet Catherine Seils Simonson of Poughkeepsie
passed away at age 75 on November 27, 2012 at Vassar Brothers Hospital after a brief illness.
Janet was born on December 1, 1936 in Rochester NY, to Emerson Robert and Jeanette Catherine Seils.
She is survived by her husband Charles Edward Simonson; son Kevin and wife Andrea of Poughkeepsie; son Steven of Chester, VA; son Eric of New Paltz, NY; family daughters-in-law Theresa and Diana; and by grandchildren Michelle, Matthew, Aaron, Karen and Lewis. She is also survived by her brother Robert and his wife Marion, her brother Thomas and his wife Evelyn, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Janet graduated from Arlington High School in 1954 in Poughkeepsie. She married Charlie on February 17, 1957 at the First Baptist Church in Poughkeepsie. She worked as a Secretary for the Wappingers School system for many years.
She was a member of New Hackensack Reformed Church.
She was gifted with many talents and so enjoyed her crafting and quilt making. She shared her skills with many. She was a member of the New Hackensack Chapter of the New York State Federation of Home Bureau Inc. for over 40 years. During that time she has served as State Craft Chairman, Eastern District Craft Chairman, and Secretary. In Dutchess County she was Craft Chairman for two 2-year terms. As County Board Member she held most of the Project Chairman positions and in addition served as First Vice Chair, Second Vice Chair, and Secretary. She also served on the NYS Home Bureau Scholarship Selection Committee for Columbia/Greene Community College as well as Orange County Community College.
She bowled with the Rainbow Bowling League since its inception over twenty-five years ago and was current President. She was involved with the Arlington High School Alumni Association. She and Charlie also traveled extensively in the US, Canada and Europe researching their ancestors.
She had a full and wonderful life and was happiest providing for her family. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the doctors, nurses and staff at Vassar Brothers Hospital.

Visitation will be held on Saturday Dec 1st at Wm. G. Miller & Son Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, 12603 from 11:00am-1:00pm. A brief service will be held at 1:00pm with burial immediately following at Union Cemetery, Hyde Park.
