Joanne R. Odums

Hyde Park - Joanne R. Odums, 74, a resident of Dutchess Co. for 50 years, passed away on Thursday January 10, 2013 at home with her family and friends surrounding her with their love and prayers. Joanne was born to the late James Riley and Pauline Thomas Riley in Eustis, FL on May 6, 1938 and in 1962 she moved to Poughquag, NY to raise her family. Ms. Odums worked at Harlem Valley State Hospital from the early sixties until retiring in 1993. Later on after retirement she worked for New Horizon Resources and Taconic DDSO Senior Companion Volunteer Program. How she so loved working with special needs individual.

Joanne had a smile for whom ever she met, and spread the joy of kindness everywhere she went. Ms. Odums was loved by many and will be missed by plenty. Cooking was one of her favorite pass times, it always kept good company, laughter, and love spreading throughout her life.

Joanne is survived by her sons; Lemuel Odums of Seattle, WA and Clarence Odums of Lakeland, FL a daughter; Brenda Murphy and son in law Owen of Hyde Park, NY. Her brothers; Larry D. Riley of Poughkeepsie, NY, Perris and John Riley of LadyLake, FL and Robert Riley Sr. of Tampa, FL., 4 grandchildren; Shalise Campbell of Lakeland, FL., Kathy Odums of Poughkeepsie, NY, Brendan & Bridget Murphy and Buddy (the dog) of Hyde Park, NY. Joanne was one of 16 children, so she has a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins all over the country.

She is predeceased by her siblings; Floyd, MayBelle, Johnnie Mae, Elizabeth, Willie, Milton, David, Bob, Billy, Joshua, and Joseph Riley Sr.

A Memorial Service will be held for Joanne at Mt. Zion Baptist Church 10 So Greenhaven Rd. Stormville, NY 12582 at 10AM, Saturday, January 19, 2013. Arrangements have been entrusted to Joseph J.
