John E. Koenig
Pleasant Valley - John E. Koenig, 84 of Pleasant Valley died peacefully on March 10, 2014, at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie. Born December 17, 1929 in Johnstown, PA, he was the son of Karl and Bertha Koenig. He served in the Navy during the Korean War
and later was employed 37 years at IBM were he worked in engineering and management, beginning his career in Chicago. While in Chicago he met and married Carolyn E. Pollock. After retiring they built and enjoyed their Adirondack lake front home in Piercefield, NY. John lived his life with integrity, courage, a contagious positive attitude and was never without a smile. He was an avid outdoorsman, including hunting, fishing, boating and served as a Boy Scout troop leader. He gave his time to many community events and projects, always available to help. Above all, he was deeply devoted to his family, and deeply loved.
In addition to his loving wife of 54 years, Carolyn E Koenig, John is survived by his sons, John J Koenig and Joseph C. Koenig; his daughters, Julie M. Elderkin and Carolyn A. Koenig; grandchildren, Sheila, Matthew, Jenna, and Zachary; great granddaughter, Madison; his brothers, Karl, Leroy, Ronald and sister Kathleen.
He was predeceased by his brother Lawrence Koenig and grandson Kody E. Koenig.
A memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Stanislaus Church, Rte. 44 Pleasant Valley. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations be made in John's memory to the Lymphoma Research Foundation or the Disabled American Veterans.
