Joseph F. Volnick

Town of Poughkeepsie - Joseph F. Volnick of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. died February 8, 2013 at Vassar Bros. Medical Center.

Born in Newburgh, N.Y. on April 12, 1926 he was the son of Joseph and Eleanor Bigelow Volnick, yet resided most of his life in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

Joe served in the U.S.Navy during World War II from 1943-1946 on the aircraft carrier The Ranger. He later worked for the NYS Highway Department where he was a supervisor for 42 years, retiring in 1991.

He was a longtime member of the YMCA where he enjoyed swimming and excercising. He was an avid N.Y. Giant and Yankee fan.

His wife Shirley predeceased him in 1982, in addition, he is predeceased by his sister Dolores, sister Madge, a brother Billy and a brother John.

He leaves behind a daughter Leslie Jo Volnick of Dearborn, Michigan, a sister Maryann Morgan & husband Virgil of Fishkill, N.Y., a sister Joan Weil of Poughkeepsie, and a brother Larry Volnick of Deerfield Beach, Fl. He also leaves behind his devoted long time companion of 28 years, Janet Ramondo of Poughkeepsie and stepchildren, Joseph A. Ramondo & wife Rhonda of Fishkill, Michael Ramondo of Albany, N.Y., Dena Ann Ramondo of Pawling, Christine Ramondo and fiance Chris Sacco of Poughkeepsie, loving grandchildren Vinny, Brittany and Ashley.

Visitation will be held at the Delehanty Funeral Home 64 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls on tuesday February 12, 2013 from 6 to 9PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Wednesday at 10:00 AM at St. Marys Church, Clinton St., Wappingers Falls. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery at 147 Salt Point Turnpike, Poughkeepsie.
