Mr. Luther Harvey

Poughkeepsie - Mr. Luther Harvey was the son of the late Alfred and Josephine Harvey. He was born September 15, 1929 in Nash County, North Carolina. He departed this life March 1, 2013, at St Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. He attended Nash County Schools. On February 9,1952 he was united in Holy matrimony to Vera Pittman in North Carolina. They stayed in matrimony for 62 years. They relocated to Poughkeepsie, NY in 1955. Luther was employed at P&M Motors as a mechanic for several years and also for Sherman's Furniture Store. In the late 60's Luke opened and owned the candy store on Smith Street. He was better known as "Uncle Luke" or "The Candy Man". Loved by all ages. Everyone has a story to tell when they left the candy store. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 62 years, Vera Pittman Harvey at home; 2 loving daughters, Sarah Lyons and Tara Daniels both of Poughkeepsie; a very special grandson, Bruce Lyons, three other grandchildren; one great grandchild and three great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Geraldine Daniels of Poughkeepsie, Ernestine Daniels of New Haven, CT and Carrie Lee Alston of North Carolina; two brothers, Alfred Harvey Jr and Elbert Harvey both of North Carolina. He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Ludessa Cutchin and Reath Ella Harvey; two brothers, John Harvey and Leroy Harvey. Mr Harvey also had a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives whom he loved and they loved him. He will lie in repose 10-11am Friday, March 8, at Beulah Baptist Church 92 Catharine Street, Poughkeepsie. Services 11am at the church. Reverend Jesse V. Bottoms will officiate.
