Matilda Mosley Thompson
Poughkeepsie - Matilda Thompson, 83 of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born on May 26, 1929 in Roanoke Rapids, Halifax County, North Carolina she was the daughter of the late Mr. Bernice Jarrell and Ms. Gussie Mosley.
She was educated in the public schools of Lumberton, Halifax County NC and attended Poughkeepsie Schools.
Besides her parents she is also predeceased by her loving husband Benjamin L. Thompson and infant daughter Karen L. Thompson. Her sister Madge ( Maggie ) McIntosh, cousin Dorothy Medley. Her uncle and aunt Green and Ada Mosley that raised her following the death of her parents.
Mrs. Thompson has resided in Poughkeepsie for the past 67 years. She retired from Hudson River State Hospital where she worked in the Housekeeping Dept.
Mrs Thompson was known for her signature homemade, melt in your mouth."Yeast Rolls".
She was a Master Seamstress, Knitter, and Crotchet Extraordinaire, she enjoyed gardening and selling Avon and her "Daytime Soaps". Her greatest joy in life was her Family, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was a petite woman with a large caring heart for all especially the poor, the weak and those with special needs.Mrs. Thompson would share her opinions and speak her mind on issues she felt strongly about.
She is survived by her three children; Bruce (Diane) Thompson of Hyde Park NY, Curtis Thompson of Poughkeepsie, NY and Yvonne Thompson of Kent Washington. And close extended family members cousins, Leon Faulcon, Dennis Mosley, Shirley Anderson Walden, and Bill Mosley.
Six grandchildren Terrence ( Melissa) Thompson, Jason Thompson, Curtis Thompson Jr., Tianna Anderson, Kiev Thompson and Andrea Thompson. Seven great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
Mrs Thompson will lie in repose 10-11am Tuesday, April 30 at Rhodes Funeral Homes Chapel 43 Fairview Avenue, Poughkeepsie. Services 11am at the chapel. Interment at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
