Dover Plains, NY - Patrick N. McCartha, 90, a 44-year resident of Dover Plains, NY, formerly of Gouverneur, NY died on April 9, 2013 at Sharon Hospital in Sharon, CT. Mr. McCartha was a police officer
with the Gouverneur Police Department for 13 years and later worked as a motor vehicle operator at the Wassaic Development Center in Wassaic, NY for 17 years retiring in 1984. He also owned and operated mobile home parks in New York and Florida.
Born on March 17, 1923 in Gouverneur, NY, he was the son of the late David L. and Minnie J. (Clark) McCartha. Mr. McCartha attended Gouverneur Schools and proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps
from 1944 to 1946. On December 30, 1943 in Gouverneur, NY, he married Madeline M. McEathron who predeceased him on December 30, 2010. He was a member of the Gouverneur Elks Club
. and American Legion, and the Gouverneur Police Association. A 44-year member and past lieutenant of the J.H. Ketcham Hose Company in Dover Plains, NY, Mr. McCartha received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001 for his dedicated service to the community. He also received two commendations for life saving actions while serving as a police officer in Gouverneur, NY.
Mr. McCartha is survived by his daughter, Donna J. Craft and her husband, Howard, of Dover Plains, NY; two sons, Tommy L. McCartha and his wife, Diane, of Bullsville, NY and Patrick A. McCartha and his wife, Carol, of St. David, AZ; a sister-in-law/daughter, Muriel "Tootsie" Disco of Watertown, NY and her children, Mike, Jeff, Jay and Debbie Disco. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Scott D. Conklin and his wife, Robin, of Dover Plains, NY, Brad J. Conklin and his wife, Melissa, of Dover Plains, NY, Jamie L. Kahn and her husband, Eric, of Rockhill, NY, Shawn P. McCartha and his wife, Stephanie and Kelly McCartha, both of St. David, AZ and Melissa Thompson Sousa of Tupper Lake, NY. He is also survived by twenty-two great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, David L. McCartha and six sisters, Marion Beach, Eva Pete, Doris Brown, Gladys Kennedy, Grace Worden and Jean Martin.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Firematic services will be conducted by the J. H. Ketcham Hose Company at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the funeral home with Rev. Chris Boyd officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Valley View Cemetery, Dover Plains, NY.
