Reg Ward Sr.

Staatsburg - Reg Ward, Sr., 88, a longtime resident of Staatsburg who was also affectionately known as "Big Reg", or "Pop Ward", died on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck.

Born Sunday, June 9, 1925 in Port Deposit, Maryland, he was the son of the late Harry and Mildred Klapper Calhoun.

He was a 1943 graduate of Poughkeepsie High School and proudly served with the United States Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II.

Reg worked at IBM for over twenty years before retiring. He went on to work for the Poughkeepsie Journal and was the owner and operator of The Video Shop in Staatsburg for twenty three years, where he loved interacting with his customers and friends.

Big Reg loved to tinker and work around his house. He enjoyed helping people especially his neighbors with whatever project they were working on. He was always generous with his backhoe!

In 1947 in Sharon, CT, he married Helen Douglas. Mrs. Ward survives at home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons, Reggie Ward Jr. and wife, Rose, and Harry Ward and wife, Leslie, all of Staatsburg; three grandsons, Jason and Josh Ward, both of Staatsburg; and Ryan Ward of Los Angeles, CA; half-brother, Edwin; half-sister, Barbara; cousin, Maryann; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 Pm, Thursday, August 1st at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.

Funeral services will be at 10 am, Friday, August 2nd at the Funeral Home. Rev. Thom Fiet will officiate.

Burial with military honors will follow in Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
