Richard E. Doyle
Hyde Park - Richard E. 'Dick' Doyle, 74, a lifelong resident of Hyde Park and Staatsburg, died Thursday, August 1, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie.
Born August 22, 1938 in Rhinebeck, he was the son of the late Walter and Florence 'Fawney' A'Brial Doyle.
He was a member of the Dinsmore Golf League, and the Stone Church Fishing Club in Hyde Park; and a former member of the Red Hook Golf Club, and Hyde Park Elks Club
. He attended St. Paul's Church in Staatsburg.
Dick and Eleanor enjoyed going to dinner and playing the slots together at the casino. He enjoyed horse racing (OTB), playing golf, fishing, and watching baseball and football on television.
He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps
Dick was the Superintendant of Dinsmore Golf Course in Staatsburg for thirty-eight years, retiring in 1996.
On May 19, 1996 in Red Hook, he married the former Eleanor Whitney. Mrs. Doyle survives at home.
In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by his two step-sons, Richard Soper and wife, Sheila, of Dingmans Ferry, PA, and Edward Soper and wife, Nilsa, of Wappingers Falls; brother, David Doyle of Staatsburg; four sisters, Helen Strieder and husband, Ed, of Red Hook, Chloe Elmendorf of Hillsdale, Beverly McCormick and husband, Jim, of Hyde Park, Patricia Doyle of Staatsburg; brother-in-law, Richard Whitney and wife, Ethel, of Hyde Park; and several nieces and nephews.
He always had a special place in his heart for his Pugs, Jo Jo and Tiki, and his beloved cat, Puddy.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his three brothers, Walter E. Sr., Reginald, and Edward Doyle.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 PM, on Tuesday, August 6th at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Funeral services will be at 10 am on Wednesday, August 7th at the Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in the family plot in Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
